Data Capture Settings for Images

(Refer to the chapter "Field Setup: Data Capture General" for the majority of the options in this tab. In this chapter we will cover just the unique settings for images)

The Data Capture tab for image fields provides 2 main "User Control Types" (plus the addition of any image picker groups you may have established on your template Assets page). The Data Capture prompts for images varies slightly between the selections you make in the Control Type drop down, and what was chosen previously in the Field Type tab for the prompt "Data for this field will come from."

Entry from Field Type Tab

What type of field will this be? = Image

Data for this field will come from? = User Entry

User Control Type: Standard Image Upload Image uploads for compatible files. This option does not allow the user to modify the

in any way; it is uses exactly what is uploaded. It will resize the image to fit the area and will not give the customer the option of cropping a particular area of the image. You can either require or not require that the user upload an image.

User Control Type: Advanced Image Upload This selection provides your user with simple photo editing functions such as resizing and cropping, within the aspect ratio of the original image. Only raster type files are supported in the Advanced Image Upload. You can either require or not require that the user upload an image.

User Control Type: Image Picker Group(s) This selection displays the images uploaded in the image picker asset groups that you create. Note that the Default Graphic area displays each of the images with a radio button selector to specify the image you want displayed as a default.

Entry from Field Type Tab

What type of field will this be? = ImageData for this field will come from? = Another Field (only available on Forms Based templates)

Only one option will be required in the data capture tab for this choice. You need to specify what field in the template will also apply to this field. As an example, you may have two areas on a business card that will show a company logo but you only want the end user to upload the logo one time. You will ask for them to upload the logo and then have that image be used in both areas. The first field will be a normal user entry and the additional will get data from "another field".. the first field. A drop down list will provide a list of all other fields in the template, choose the one that you want to get the data from.

Entry from Field Type Tab

What type of field will this be? = ImageData for this field will come from? = Graphic File

When you choose to get the data from a graphic file you will be prompted in the tab for the file you want to use. This option does not give the user the ability to choose or upload an image but instead you choose what will fill that space. An example of a good time to use this would be if you have shells already printed for a product and even though you want the customer to see how the end product will look, you don't want to have certain areas print on the production file. In this case you would upload those areas as images using the Graphic File option and then set this image to not print on the production file (Format Tab "Field Usage" set to Proof only).

Entry from Field Type Tab

What type of field will this be? = ImageData for this field will come from? = Static Text or Field Scripting

For images the option for "Static Text" should be ignored, as it does not apply to image fields. When selecting this combination of image options you will need to add either html or vbScripting in the "Field Scripting" tab. Field scripting is typically not used on an Interactive Designer template but in some instances this may work for you. You will get a warning when you set it for Interactive Designer that it will only take effect in the proof and the production file. The scripted information will not show on the template during the design process.

Entry from Field Type Tab

What type of field will this be? = ImageData from this field will come from? = Variable Data File (only available on Forms Based templates)

If this combination of choices is made in the Field Type tab then there is no entry needed in Data Capture. The customer will be prompted to upload a Variable Data file and map up the field that will pull the image from. The customer must have a file that contains a URL of where the image can be pulled from for this to work.
