Question:

Why doesn't my production file (or order item) have the person's name on it?

Answer:

The name comes from the Identifying String on the Data Schema linked to the design. The Identifying String is a field, or a combination of fields, that tells one customer's customized project apart from another. Its value is added:

• to the Order Item name, after the product name
• to the production file name

If the name is missing, the Data Schema usually has no Identifying String set, or the field it uses isn't valid.

How to check:

1. Go to Online Ordering > Variable Templates New > Data Schemas and open the Data Schema linked to the product's design.
2. Find the Identifying String setting.
3. Is a field entered? If it's blank, choose the field that should identify the project, for example the Name field.
4. Is the field valid?The field in the Identifying String must:
   • exist in the Data Schema's Fields list
   • match the Schema field name exactly, including spelling, spacing and capitalization. Schema field names must also match the Design field names.
   • be filled in by the customer. If the field isn't required and the customer leaves it blank, nothing is added. Set the field's Validation to Required if every order should include it.
5. Save the Data Schema.

Good to know:

• Changes to the Data Schema only apply to new orders. Orders placed before the fix keep their original name and file name.
• If a Schema field has been renamed or removed, check the Identifying String again. It may still point to the old field name.
• Using two fields, such as Name and Location, helps when one customer might order for two people with the same name.
