Let's break down all the different properties you can adjust on the right hand side of the designer app. If you just select the design, you will see Page properties on the right, but if you select an element of your design, like a text box, you will see tabs for Design and Behavior on the right. There are a large number of things you can adjust, so let's look at the details:

SectionDescription

Placeholder text toggle: Turn on the placeholder toggle to adjust placeholder text for this text box.

Overflow strategy: Select from the dropdown how text should behave when it overflows past the edge of the text box. (Clip, fit to width, fit to box, expand box)

Shrink mode: Select from the dropdown how text should behave when forced to shrink within a text box. (Size, scale)

General permissions consists of a series of toggles to control what customers can adjust on the design. These are broken into different sections:

Locked: This will lock all permissions for the layer when the template is being edited.

Visibility allows you to set the field to show on the proof and production file only or completely hidden or not at all. For example, a t-shirt might need to ask what size shirt the user wants but it’s informational only and doesn’t show up in the proof or production file. Select Hide item at Print file or Hide item at Editor to adjust visibility.

Show in item list: This is for Template-Based editor designs. Turning off will remove the layer from being listed in the left-hand sidebar.

Remove on layout change: This allows users to remove the layer if "Allow users changing a design layout" is turned on in the template-based editor template settings.

Manipulations: Allow the user to move, resize, rotate, delete, and arrange the selected element.

Generic: Allow the user to delete, edit, allow opacity, etc. to the selected element.

Appearance: Allow the user to change the fill color, border color, border width, and opacity of the selected element.

Text: Allow the user to change properties of the text in the selected element.

Variable: This sets the field to variable - for variable data (spreadsheet upload) templates only.

Max Characters: Set a maximum number of characters for the field.

Max Lines: Set a maximum number of lines for the field (works only with text area fields).

Max line characters: Set a maximum number of characters per line (works only with text area fields).

Violation is used to control where the user can move objects. For example, you can have it error if they place it on the bleed line. Select the toggle for text crop, allow in place text, safety lines, region, and bleed area to set your violations.
